We rent out charming rooms on a small farm with a view to the sea on the island of Finnøy in Ryfylke Rogaland, with a view towards the Boknafjorden and over the agricultural areas of Finnøy.
We have 3 lovely bedrooms that share a 2 WC and a spacious shower room. We rent these out as bed and breakfast and it comes with a lovely farm breakfast with home-baked bread of the best variety. The bread we make is slightly healthier than other breads as it is left to rise for a long time and has a characteristically good taste and crispy crust.
When you choose to spend the night at Falkasete, you will have access to your own writing corner and a large common room in an outbuilding that has been specially designed for those who want to do art, such as painting, drawing, clay or other exciting things. You will also have the opportunity to shop for art materials with us should you leave your own at home.
Our place is perfect for those who want a pleasant home office during the winter months or a place where you can write a book.
Wireless internet is included in the price.
Finnøy is the place for you who want complete relaxation in calm and pleasant surroundings, with a lovely view to the south-west where you will see the rays of the afternoon and evening sun in the sea. We also have a lovely vantage point at the top of the plot where you can enjoy a view of the sea and nearby islands, where you can grill, paint, sit down to write or the like.
Finnøy is a close neighbor to many exciting sights;
The house is located on Finnøy, which is a small island with 3,200 inhabitants in Stavanger community. The island has a mainland connection and is about 30 minutes by car from Stavanger. There are also regular departures by fast boat from Judaberg to Stavanger city center approx. 30 min. The nearest grocery store can be found at Judaberg, Finnøy, which is a 5-minute drive away. In Judaberg you will find 2 grocery stores, 1 hardware store, 2 hair salons, 1 wellness salon with spa department, 1 pizza restaurant, 1 pub&restaurant;, 1 food cart/food service with a very exciting selection and then it is a short trip to Stavanger and Sandes with its many tens if not hundreds restaurants of which 2 have Michelin stars; https://guide.michelin.com/en/no/rogaland/restaurants
The speedboat stops at the jetty in Judaberg and it is a 45-55 minute walk from the house - where you can take a quick trip to Stavanger with all its restaurants. Otherwise, it takes about 30 minutes to drive to Stavanger from Finnøy.
The old house has been renovated and is located in the countryside in the heart of tomato Norway. The house has retained its charming style, but is contemporary and practical furnished. The spacious terrace faces south and west with a view of the sea. Below the house there is a lawn and good opportunities for parking. It is a short distance to great hiking trails on the island.
The house consists of 3 rooms with double beds, all of which are rented out as "room and breakfast". Each room has an associated sitting area with 2 armchairs and 1 desk with chair. The rooms have a TV, kettle, fridge and a welcome basket of juice and sandwich is included when you arrive.
1 toilet with spacious shower upstairs, 1 toilet downstairs, both of which are used by those who rent one of the 3 rooms. The breakfast kitchen is downstairs and is open between 8:00 and 11:00, where you will be served a good breakfast every day you stay in our house. Downstairs there is an exit from the hallway to the terrace where you can sit down and eat breakfast outside if you wish. The kitchen is only available for breakfast. If you wish, you can go up to our barbecue area where you can sit down and grill or cook outside and at the same time enjoy the view of the sea, the Boknafjord and the surrounding islands. Further up on the plot there is an outdoor barbecue area/kitchen that you can freely use and sit down with a romantic view of the Boknafjorden, the nearest islands and the sea where you sit embraced by Falkasetet's beautiful nature. Up on the viewing platform itself, you have as your nearest neighbor a view of an old Viking burial ground, Falkasete itself.
Delicious evenings: there are no mosquitoes here!
Take a look at the video in image selection showing one of the neighboring islands, Hidle, which is a beautiful island filled with tropical plants, as this part of Norway is known to be warm enough to harbor tropical islands and the island is in the heart of Norwegian tomato farming. It was actually on Finnøy, about 500 m from our small farm, that tomatoes first began to be grown in Norway in 1928. The greenhouse was 55m2 in size. In 1929, 1 more was built at Vestbø. At the 1939 agricultural census, there were a total of 110 greenhouses in the former Finnøy and Rennesøy municipalities. On almost all the islands in Boknafjorden. It saved many people from poverty in the hard 1930 years.
You can rent a small electric scooter with 30km range and "bike" all over the island or take it by ferry to some of the nearby islands to explore. The ferries to nearby islands are free of charge!
There may be an opportunity to rent a small boat with space for 7-8 people, ask in advance. Good fishing conditions around the island.
Maria Hrefna your host is a descendant from the famous Birkebeinerne and king Håkon Håkonsson, which you can read more about here; https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birkebeinerne
You can also read about the family and family line here: https://falkasete.no/var-historie/, but it was your host Maria Hrefnas ancestor Gudridur who moved to Iceland from Norway, decendant of Håkon Håkonsson who brought the famous "kings horn" with her to Iceland and her son Ívar Hólmur Vigfússon who wrote his name on the kings horn and another horn, now preserved in Denmark but Norwegians are trying to get the horns "back home".
Maria Hrefna and her husband Nils run the small farm as a herbal sanctuary, allowing about 85% of the farm to grow in a permaculture style and are working on the land little by little. Maria Hrefna is a herbalist and does offer consultations for those seeking health improvements through change in diet and use of plants as support to health.
